Sustainability Policy/Statement
Last updated: 1st. October 2026
At La Siesta Hoi An Resort, we believe that true hospitality extends beyond exceptional service—it includes a wholehearted commitment to the environment, our team, our guests, and the communities we are part of. Guided by strong values and ethical principles, we pledge to make a positive impact through the following actions:
Environmental Stewardship
We recognize the urgent need to address climate change and are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Through energy-saving practices, responsible sourcing, and waste reduction initiatives, we strive to minimize our environmental footprint. We continuously seek innovative ways to conserve energy and water, reduce single-use plastics, and promote sustainability across our operations. Our 5-year environmental goals (2025–2030):
- Reduce energy consumption per guest night by at least 5%
- Reduce water consumption per guest night by at least 5%
- Eliminate at least 50% of single-use plastic items used on-site
- Reduce total waste sent to landfill by at least 30%
- Lower carbon emissions per guest night by at least 5%
These targets are measured per guest night against our 2025 baseline of 20.49 kWh of energy, 375 litres of water and 11.95 kg of CO2e per guest night, so that changes in occupancy do not distort the comparison.
Protecting and Supporting Biodiversity
We are committed to protecting the natural ecosystems that surround us. We maintain a biodiversity garden of native and pollinator-friendly planting within the resort, give preference to native species in all new planting, and educate our guests and staff about the importance of biodiversity. Our landscaping and procurement practices prioritize native species and environmentally-friendly products.
Fair and Respectful Employment Practices
Our people are the heart of our hotel. We are dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace where all employees are treated fairly and supported in their professional growth. In line with our Human Resources manual, we promote non-discrimination, equal opportunity, and fair labor practices. We believe in open communication, continuous learning, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
Respecting Human Rights
We uphold and respect the fundamental rights of all individuals. Our commitment extends to protecting the rights of minorities, women, children, and other vulnerable groups. We ensure that our policies and practices are aligned with international human rights standards and are integrated into our daily operations, decision-making, and supply chain.
Community Engagement and Responsibility
As a proud member of the local community, we are committed to making a positive and lasting impact. We prioritize hiring locally, supporting local businesses, and building partnerships that advance social and environmental well-being. Each year, we dedicate at least $2,000 to support community initiatives—such as school improvement projects—that contribute to local development. Once a month, on the second Friday, our team also takes part in Go Green, a clean-up of the area around the resort and of Mieu Thanh Ha, the temple next to our property. Guests who would like to support our community work are welcome to speak to our reception team, who can share what we are currently supporting and how to contribute.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
The safety and well-being of children are of utmost importance. We have a strict zero-tolerance policy against all forms of child exploitation and abuse. All staff members are trained to recognize and report any suspicious behavior or concerns involving children. We work closely with local authorities and child protection organizations to ensure that our hotel remains a safe space for all.
Our Progress
Our environmental goals run to 2030. Every year we compare our performance with the previous twelve months and publish the results here, including where we are not yet on track. The figures below cover September 2025 to August 2026 and are drawn from our own monthly monitoring records.
Goal | Target by 2030 | Change on last year | Change against our 2025 baseline | Status |
Water consumption per guest night | −5% | +0.1% | −1.1% | Moving towards target |
Energy consumption per guest night | −5% | +3.7% | +1.5% | Behind target |
Carbon emissions per guest night | −5% | +2.8% | +1.6% | Behind target |
Single-use plastic items used on site | −50% | Monitoring introduced | Baseline being set
Waste sent to landfill | −30% | Monitoring introduced | Baseline being set
Biodiversity garden and native planting | Every year | Garden established | On track
Contribution to community initiatives | $2,000 each year | 85 million VND | Achieved |
Waste figures cover the same twelve months as the rest of this page and include estimates for September 2025 and for months with incomplete records.
Water
Water use per guest night was unchanged on last year and is now 1.1% below our 2025 baseline, a first step towards our 2030 target. The flood affected this figure too. Our pools were scrubbed on 31 October and 1 to 2 November but could not be refilled while the town’s supply of clean water was restricted. The river rose a second time on 3 November, so they were scrubbed again and refilled from 4 November, and a great deal of water was needed to wash mud from the grounds, buildings and furnishings. Excluding the two flood-affected months, water use per guest night fell by 0.5%.
Energy and carbon
Our energy and carbon results were affected by the historic flood of late October 2025, the worst to hit Hoi An since 1964. We closed the resort from 28 October to 9 November and reopened on 10 November, and many November bookings were cancelled in the weeks that followed. Throughout the closure, with no guests in residence, and during the recovery work that continued after we reopened, we had to keep pumps and other equipment running, which raised our energy use per guest night for those two months.
Excluding the two months affected by the flood, energy per guest night was broadly stable across the rest of the year, and in January and February 2026 it was lower than a year earlier. We remain committed to our 2030 targets and are reviewing how we can reduce the fixed energy load of our public areas during quieter periods.
Plastics and waste
Purchases of bottled water in plastic bottles fell by 75% against the same period last year, and we have bought none since January 2026. We record solid waste by disposal route and are extending monthly recording to single-use plastics purchased on site, which will give us a full baseline to report against next year. About one third of our waste is now diverted from landfill.
Biodiversity
We had planned to support a local marine conservation programme financially this year. The organisation we approached is not able to receive corporate donations under its current arrangements, so we have redefined this goal as work we carry out ourselves within the resort, while we continue to look for a local partner able to receive support directly. Our biodiversity garden brings together native trees and flowering plants that feed and shelter bees, butterflies and birds, and no broad-spectrum insecticide is used there.
Community
This year we funded repairs and improvements at Tra Doc primary school, including a covered walkway and a kitchen at the Ong Doan school site, completed in time for the 2026–2027 school year.
What we are doing next
Over the coming year we will replace the three remaining air-conditioning units that use R22 refrigerant, complete monthly monitoring of waste and single-use plastics across all outlets, and review our fixed energy use during periods of low occupancy. We will report on each of these here next year.
Together, we are building a hospitality experience that respects people, protects the planet, and supports communities.
Closeness to Nature
Thanks to our team of dedicated architects and designers, we were able to build a resort that allows us to make great strides in sustainability, something that lies in our core values. Our mission has encouraged us to use as many natural and renewable materials as possible in the construction of La Siesta Hoi An Resort & Spa such as bamboo, wood, palm leaves and bricks.
We make sure to compliment the beauty of nature with its own sweeping landscape, with 70% of the resort’s land dedicated to plants and greenery.
The greenery system at La Siesta not only creates fresh air and enchanting natural landscapes, it also acts as a natural sound barrier against the bustling of the city and provides natural cooling effects against the hot tropical weather.
Environmental Protection
At La Siesta Hoi An, we care about the environment. That’s why one of our top priorities is to improve the ecological and carbon footprint of the resort operation. Reflecting a love of nature and increasing our efforts in making the world a better place, we are on the journey to reduce energy, water, and waste, and improve our impact on the environment.
Our goal is to become plastic-free with the help of renewable and recyclable products in the future. In addition, we are trying to reduce the use of single-use plastic materials by replacing plastic bottles for shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel with ceramic containers.
To further diminish the threats to our environment, we have introduced toothbrushes, combs, and razors wrapped in soft recyclable paper packages.
We wish to deliver cold beverages to you while staying environmentally friendly – we use acrylic, and stainless steel straws. These substitutes of plastic straws are completely recyclable and can be reused after thorough cleaning.
Our guests enjoy drinking water which is bottled in reusable glass bottles. This saves around 120 000 plastic bottles per year from the resort and to the landfill.
Garden re-invention. Falling leaves are turned into homemade compost and re-introduced back into the rich soil as natural fertilisers for our beautiful gardens.
Cultural Preservation
Our commitment to keeping alive the fabulous traditions of Hoi An are evidenced in our construction. Wooden columns, yellow walls and the yin and yang roof tiles architecture is matched in beauty with amenities made of stone. Décor celebrating local culture, all sourced from local artisans in a bid to support these ancient trades and craftsmen. The restaurant also champions delectable Hoi An cuisine with a huge selection of regional delicacies.
All the paintings, photos exhibited within the hotel are created by local artists all across Vietnam. Life, traditions and sceneries of Hoi An are brought to life by these local artists.
Connecting with Community
Many of our staff were born and raised in Hoi An, and we cherish our community by providing jobs to locals as well as people from all over Vietnam.
Once a month, on the second Friday, our team takes part in Go Green, a clean-up of the area around the resort and of Mieu Thanh Ha, the temple next to our property. It is a simple way for us to care for the neighbourhood we share and for a place that matters to the local community.
Child Protection Commitment
La Siesta Hoi An Resort is a proud member of The CODE (Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism) since 18/08/2025.
The CODE is a global initiative in partnership with ECPAT International that helps the travel and tourism industry prevent the sexual exploitation of children. Members commit to six essential criteria, including staff training, policy implementation, contractual clauses, guest awareness, and annual reporting. Today, The CODE has hundreds of members worldwide, from hotels and resorts to tour operators and travel companies, all working together to safeguard children’s rights. In Vietnam, there are currently only two official members, and La Siesta Hoi An Resort is honored to be one of them. Our membership reflects both our ethical commitment and our responsibility to promote responsible tourism and protect children in every aspect of our operations.
